Anybody has experience in refurbished Thinkpads such as T530, etc. at Lenevo's outlet store?

Are these refurbished Thinkpads look equally good in quality as new ones?

I believe the warranty on a refurbished Thinkpad is the same as for a new one, correct?

    Thanks!

From my experience with them, I have made around 10 purchases from outlet, they all look pretty much brand new, aside from sometimes I get one or two scratches on the laptop outside. But I expected that from Ideapad aluminum bodies. As for Thinkpad, I have ordered a couple, no problems whatsoever, I mean one time I had a keyboard that had a key which didnt work, but they sent me a new one for my own replacement overnight.

I just purchased a X230t from the outlet last night, so we will see how it turns up.

A few days ago, I ordered a T530 from Lenovo's website. Today I cancelled it and ordered a refurbished one from its outlet website.

The config of the two are very similar except that the refurbished one has i7-3820 and 8GB (1 dimm). The refurbished one is about $150 cheaper.

I believe the warranty on a refurbished Thinkpad is the same as for a new one, correct?

Do you know whether i7-3820 generates a lot of heat even with light work?

    Thanks for sharing!

    Cheers!

How are you guys even getting access to the outlet? Every time I go there I get

Yes warranties are the same, since they are both Thinkpad dept. As for heat, I do expect as much as AMD processors for sure. It should stay relatively cool, but it is still a quad core, so it will generate heat, but only under heavy loads. It has smart clocking programs run into it, so if under light use, it wont use up to the full 3+ GHz, and even it idle it should idle down below 1.0GHz. Honestly, I do not think you will have any problems regarding heat with an Intel processor, especially the newer 3rd gens, not for AMD that is another story...

I am using Firefox, it loads perfectly.

This is just a conjecture, but I am pretty sure I am right... but it is just outlet.lenovo.com, there is no http... in the front of it.

    No.

The warranty one *all* Outlet units is one-year and can't be extended any further.

There is an option of post-warranty service agreement, but these are rather expensive.

Apart from that caveat, the machines I've bought from the Outlet in the past were as good as new in all respects.

I am glad that I used my American Express to buy it. AMEX adds the same warranty for one more year.

BTW, AMEX's warranty covers Lenovo-sold refurbished computers? I am just curious.

    Cheers!

P.S. Get a Fidelity American Express card. It gives 2% reward on everything, plus whatever benefits AMEX usually provides.

How is the shipping speed on a refurbished Thinkpad? It should be pretty fast, right? Because no need to build it.... I cannot wait :)

I used my Amex as well, I made sure of that.

Anyway, my said it came with free "expedited", but IDK, it just depends on where you live, it usually takes a week, they ship Ground service with signature required.

Yeah that was it; Firefox saved the https in front of it. Haha I haven't been able to camp the outlet for months now because of that!

Thinkpads from there are great, but I cannot speak for Scratch and Dent, only Refurbished and New.

I bought a Thinkpad Edge off the site 2 years ago.. It was about $100 -$130 cheaper. No problems. However, I realized that I will always need to buy Accidental coverage for my laptops which you cannot get with the outlets. But no problems with the laptop.

any idea how much it costs to extend the warranty? the rep on chat said it depends on the model/serial number of the refurbished item

Also, can I add accident damage protection when the original 1 year warranty expires? any idea how much that costs?

Hate to put it so bluntly, but you were lied to. You can't extend the warranty on anything bought in the Outlet.

    No.

are you sure? I contacted them again and another rep this time told me the same exact thing. I can extend the warranty after the first year standard warranty expires. She didn't give me an estimate and mentioned that I have to purchase first to know the rates to extend the warranty.... sounds kinda shady.. what if they say no or say it will $1000/year after the one year standard warranty has expired? I did ask them but reps don't have any say. Policies..I was told.

    I most certainly am.

First of all, the only way to entend a warranty on any ThinkPad (not counting the Outlet ones) is to do so while the original warranty is still in effect.

What they're trying to sell you is a "post-warranty service agreement" (or whatever it's called nowadays) which costs double from what the standard warranty would run you if you bought a non-Outlet unit...

Calling this outrageous sales pitch "shady" is being very kind in this set of circumstances.

    Good luck.

This is 100% correct. All outlet purchases come with a one year depot warranty that cannot be extended, nor can on-site or accidental coverage be added. They are not eligible for IWS either. You can only do the post warranty extension, which I believe is $169 for one year.

you guys are correct. They don't offer extended warranties, ADPs, or IWS. They offer just the basic depot warranty. Not sure how much that costs though; they wouldn't tell.

So this is an old thread, but since I relied on it last week I wanted to share my experience. I am now a week into a nightmare with a Lenovo t440s that I purchased on the Lenovo outlet site. The laptop arrived and when I opened it the first thing I noticed was a scratch across the LCD. For kicks I fired it up anyhow and it wouldn't boot the first time. Eventually I got it going and did the usual firmware and OS updates thinking that would resolve the boot issue. It did not. Next I found none of the USB ports work. After a good half hour on the phone with Lenovo they determine it needs to go back for a new board. The tech advises I note the screen issue on the return form. I ship the laptop to them in the box they provided and today I find out they will not replace the screen under warranty and are shipping the laptop back unrepaired because I will not agree to pay additional money for a new screen. I'll be returning this and buying something a different brand as soon as it gets back. I understand it's not new, but a scratch across the display is completely unacceptable.

I just bought a thinkpad yoga from the outlet in 'new' condition and it unexpectedly came with a four year warranty. My order form said one but in the lenovo solution center it states 1388 days until warranty runs out. Limited warranty just to be clear.
Anyone else have this with a recent purchase?
Maybe the orignal purchaser got a 4 year warranty and lenovo forgot to remove it? I'm afraid to register it and lose it lol =o

That sounds about right. I'd keep my mouth shut and check the warranty status again in, say, three months...
