Sorry too many threads ago .. so here goes. Jonlumpkin I checked the weight of the European X200s with following stats: The usual 1.86 Ghz, 250 GB HDD, the CCFL 1280 x 800 with webcam screen, 6 cell battery: Weight 1.35 KG = 3 pounds on the dot says the kg/pounds converter. So about half a pound lighter then the tablet. I assume this is the 6 cell version, it said a 62 WH battery which I think is 6 cell ? So you were right about the screen, the LED screen is somewhat lighter. Now I really would love to see a Youtube with the X200s speaker working. Is it ok for Skype? I think we agreed on that. I read the battery life on the X301 watching a movie is 1 hour 15 min, that is just not good enough.

Sorry just a stupid query ... I have never had a tablet notebook and I don't think I have any use for it ...could business users elaborate on that? I don't usually have to show off spreadsheets or so, I just send them by e-mail. pondering about the Tablet but I can get the X200s with the ultrabase included for the price of a Tablet ...

I don't think a 62 WHr battery exists. The 4 cell for the x200(s) is 28WHr, the 6 cell is 56 WHr, my 8 cell is 66WHr, and the 9 cell is 84 WHr. I believe the 6 cell for the x300/x301 is 42WHr.

According to the x200s/x200 Tablet announcement ( video), the x200s speaker is twice as loud as the x200. The quality isn't going to be great, but it should be enough for Skype.

1 hour, 15 minutes for video playback is way too low for the x301. Even with the 3 cell battery (28 WHr I think), this would imply power usage over 22 watts. I can play back 720p content on my x200 Tablet with a bright screen without going over 15 watts. I would think the x301 would have similar power usage to the domestic x200s and x200 Tablet (x301 is ULV, both are LED but x301 has a larger screen); the difference is that the x200(s) offers much better batteries.

The tablet has a far better screen (AFFS+) and slightly better speakers/microphone. The main reason to buy a tablet is for annotating documents (e.g. add ink notes to office documents, PDFs, et. al), taking notes with a legal pad vs. notebook shaped device (more polite for meetings), and reading documents/ebooks/internet using a vertically oriented display.

I love the tablet, but if you can't envision yourself using the digitizer or the slate mode, then the x200 is probably a better choice.

Many thanks ... I think I finally have taken the decision ... X200s as above. No more for now. Thanks for your patience & expert advice. I think you had indeed mentioned the speakers are 2 Watts versus 1 Watt in X200.

Unless you're a college student who wants to take note, you almost have no need for a tablet. Also, although the speaker on the X200s is a bit stronger than it is on the X200, you may also need to know that they both suck. Unless needed, you should use a decent pair of headphone with your laptop rather than the speaker.

Zephir I only need the speaker for Skype conversations in a hotel room so as long as it is loud enough for voice is fine. Movies and Music I usually have headphones. They just don't make the perfect laptop, which in my case would be either a X200s with decent stereo speakers or an X301 with a larger HDD (250GB or more) and an express card slot ... can't win.
