On boot, I get an error message: Windows could not load the installer for {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}. Contact your hardware vendor for assistance.

I then get a taskbar message: Found new hardware generic DVD-Roms SCSI Cdrom device.

This may (or may not) be related to uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes. Searching the registry key, there is an entry for {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} which includes a reference to GearAspi, which iTunes uses as a cdrom driver.

I've tried uninstalling iTunes, reinstalling it, doing the same for Daemaon tools, and deleting parts of some registry keys (e.g., the upperfilters GEARAspiWDM entry), none of which help.

I tried disabling the device in device manager, but Windows say it does not have an installer.

I'm running XP SP2 on an x61s. I don't have a hardware cdrom or dvdrom device attached.
