    Dear Members,

    I'm running Vista - Home Premium(SP2) on a thinkpad X200s.

I installed Microsoft Security essentials(MES) yesterday.Although everything was working well for sometime, the "Enter" key suddenly stopped working. I've tried un-installing MES, but still can't get the Enter key to work. Actually, i'm not even sure if its a H/w or S/w problem.

I'm hoping someone would have come across a similar issue in the past and can offer me some suggestions.

    Thanks,

    Kris

Can you go into bios or any preOS function and use enter?

Figure out if it is hardware related. Get a linux live boot going on a flash drive and see if it works there.

Narrow the issue and if it is your keyboard request a new one.

    Thanks Jaredy,

i actually have dual boot with Fedora 11. I tried to select fedora at boot, but can't action my choice, as my enter key does not work, if u know what i mean ??

Is there a shortcut in GRUB to boot into linux because the "Enter" key does'nt seem to work in the GRUB screen too.

    thanks,

    kris

In that case, it seems the problem is likely hardware-related, not software. Take a USB keyboard and plug it into your X200s, and see if the Enter key on that keyboard works. If so, your Thinkpad's keyboard is malfunctioning - call Lenovo support and ask for a replacement.

Thanks for the quick response. Would u know if I can somehow configure some other key to do the "Enter" key's job in the interim ? I just figured out how important the RETURN key is :D

enter key is hardwared into the bios, unless you have the enter key, much of the operations are impossible to do.

If you got warranty just call up Lenovo, they should able to send a keyboard for you to replace yourself.
