Hi, does anyone know how to enable stereo mix on the X220? Has anyone tried? I bought the machine partly for audio recording and mixing purposes and now find it's crippled without the stereo mix option...

Marcham93, it's not in the Lenovo SmartAudio application. Actually, I think Lenovo's had a history of disabling StereoMix - which is disappointing to discover only after I purchased my x220t. There's a long thread about it here: Why has stereo Mix been disabled on thinkpads & wh... - Lenovo Community

I would've imagined that such a basic feature would not have been crippled in a laptop of this genre. I am irked, to say the least, and am looking for solutions around this as I used to regularly record sounds off my firstgen Acer netbook all the time using the StereoMix or WaveOut function.

I'm also not clear on whether this is a hardware or driver issue. I'm hoping it's the latter and if so that someone can write a better driver for it.

Most manufacturers now disable it. Who doesn't fear the RIAA now?

You can get similar functionality using something like Virtual Audio Cable.
