    Hello to you all.

I recently purchased a ThinkPad R61 (with Windows XP). Quite happy so far but there are some little things still bugging me. Here's one:

I noticed that scrolling with both the touchpad and the trackpoint is different than scrolling with a regular mouse wheel. For instance, some applications perform zooming when a mouse wheel is moved. In SoundForge (a sound editor I'm using heavily on a daily basis) there's no need for vertical scrolling, so zoom is performed. UltraNav though seems to be bound to scrolling, so I have to click buttons to zoom. It's quite cumbersome doing this.

What I'm asking: Is there a way to make the UltraNav scrolling functions behave like a regular mouse wheel? Some alternative drivers out there?

    Thanks in advance.

There's an invisible scrollbar on the touchpad. By default, it's that whole right edge. Does swiping your finger in that area perform the zooming functions?

Yep, I know about this. It always scrolls though. It doesn't zoom. I guess it's handled in a different manner by the drivers than a standard mouse wheel is.

Also, it doesn't scroll in all programs. For instance, Altap Salamander, a file manager I'm using, doesn't scroll vertically with neither the touchpad, nor the trackpoint. It does scroll with a mouse wheel. Perhaps it's developed in some way that relies on a wheel, I'm not sure.

I really hope someone has some solution for this. It's usually not a problem for most software, as scrolling works fine. But some specific applications I use on a daily basis really seem to rely on a mouse wheel for both zooming and scrolling, and it's driving me insane when I can't hook a mouse (like when I'm away from my desk).

ok i think i got half a solution for you, works with touchpad but not trackpoint

uninstall the ultranav app and drivers

    reboot

    install drivers from http://www.synaptics.com/support/drive.cfm

    reboot

the touchpad should now zoom when viewing an image in windows when you use the left side of the touchpad to scroll

(also you might want to disable coasting in the special tab under control panel-> mouse->device settings->touchpad->virtual scrolling->long distance->coasting)

Hey, batman5315, thanks for your help! However, I see this driver is labeled "TouchPad Driver" by Synaptics. Does this mean that I'll lose the trackpoint when I install it? I prefer navigating with the trackpoint and I wouldn't want this happening.

trackpoint still works but with limited options (scroll functions like when you "click" the mouse wheel down and drag it)

    good luck

Did you try changing the scrolling in control panel (location mentioned above) to smooth instead of standard scrolling?
