I noticed something the other night when I had my other gear turned-off. If I turn off my computer and have the AC plugged in i'll hear some rather loud (well loud enough for me to hear it 2 metres away in the middle of the nigh) electrical noise coming from the computer. I can't quite locate from where though.

If i remove the power chord it goes silent, same if i power up the computer.
It charges the battery without any problems.

Normal, any ideas? I know there are usually some electric noise coming from these computers, and I do have some coming from the fn key area or so. But this is something connected to the power-bridge, or so it would seem..

Called the Support today, as I wanted to get my hands on a set of original Recovery Restore CD/DVD's. I asked the guy about this while I had him on the phone. He said it could be the charging circuit. When the computer's on it draws power differently from when it's turned off per se.

He said that it would probably go away if i removed the battery. He actually recommended that I unplugg the AC during the night as it's unecessary wear n' tear on the battery. If the noise was still there, or increasead within a not to distant future he told me to call back again.

Well, I've removed the battery now. As I use it as a stationary at this time of the year there really isn't much need for it anyways. And if it saves my battery, then all the better.

    The trial will be tonight.

You sure its the laptop itself or is it the transformer in the power supply?

Whatever frequency these things resonate at, I often find I can hear transformers and have to turn off electrical things at the socket to stop them disturbing my sleep.

Alright, I've found the culprit. It wasn't the computer, but the transformer which made that noise. . .

I've got the computer sitting on a shelf with the transformer lieing (right word?) behind it, so I guess I was fooled. I didn't think it was the transformer as I've never heard anything similar before, except from other laptops.

Is this normal? Anyone else have this high pitched sqeeky frequency changing sound coming from their transformer, especially when the computer's turned off and it's plugged into it?

In case anyone's interrested. I called the TP support and explained my problem (that there's a high pitched noise coming from the powerbrick which I can hear 2 metres away at times). He told me he'd send me a new one, and that there might be a return notice for the old one. If not, then I get to keep the old one as a spare. I told him he migh be able to hear it if I put the phone up close but nah dude said he trusted me.

I love that, I just love that. So this is what high-class support's like eh? Neat neat. Any other place I can think of would've been like "mmhmm, hmm, is it really that loud?". They were very helpful earlier last week when I first called about the noise as well.
