Hi all,
So the educational models are just certain models (2007, 2008 series) designated for education purchases but their compnents are the same as other models right? How does one qualify for educational purchases? (I'm a grad student) Lastly, how much cheaper is an education model compared to another model, provided that they have similar specifications?
thanks,
chris

I'm not sure whether or not they even check to verify that you're involved in academia the way you claim. If so, they might require you to be a part of a university that has a deal with them; they might just want to verify that you're a grad student. It's a pretty good discount - especially compared to HP's, for instance (HP gives a $50 discount, though their starting prices are lower). While you didn't ask, I'll go ahead and recommend getting it. While I am quite happy with my Z60M, if I were purchasing now, the T60 would be my top choice - and it's not out of reach with an educational discount.

Definitely call them if you are trying to make an educational purchase. I used the online link and they cancelled my orders because they said I had not entered any sort of ID number or anything. The best part is that there wasn't even a place to enter my ID number in, so I don't know how they wanted that to work. Go to your state's educational website and just contact who ever it says is your representative

Actually, if I remember correctly, I had to set up some sort of an account with them (e.g. a simple login account).

The school I went to (Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute) orders Thinkpads for all the freshmen (and some juniors) each year, and gets custom configurations made up (I was part of the first year of the program, my 600E was a XXXX-RP1, the T20s of the next year were XXXX-RP2, etc). some of the educational configurations might be a similar situation, not available to the general public.

If you are a student, Lenovo automatically gives you a 5% discount on their computers. They are not very detailed about verifying your student status though - you just have to tell them that you are a student. (though some sales rep might ask you the name of the school)
