I'm looking for a laptop that will mostly be used for basic stuff, web surfing, watching some vids, etc.
All three of these series have 14" models within $100 of each other.
I do notice the S series has a backlit keyboard which would be nice. But is there any other real diff??

14" means you are talking about E430/E431/E440, L430/L440, and S430/S431/S440, right? If that are just your needs, then anything is alright.

    What I can tell:

    Special characteristic about S series:
    -It doesn't has VGA port
-It is slim, light and portable (esp. for 14 inch)
-There is only 1 slot RAM

S (esp. S440) & L series has better build quality than Edge. Especially the L series, it's advertised as MIL-SPEC tested. Usually L series only sold in few regions for end customer.

Thx, I actually went ahead and ordered the S431 last night, base i3 Win7 model but with an upgraded screen resolution.
I used to use thinkpads back in the days of the 600 and 770 series, miss those build qualities!
