I'm a big fan of my e220s, but the upcoming S430 just checks all the right boxes for me:

    -full-power CPU
    -discrete graphics
-capability for 2 (presumably) full-height drives
    -1600x900 resolution
-matte display, if the tour video on YouTube is to be believed
    -Thunderbolt and USB 3.0

I'm surprised (and grateful) that they chose to fit such goodness in the Edge package.

any ideas what card is in the s430? as long as the card is significantly better than 6630m (like 6770m/7600s and above) and same for nvidia like a 555m gt. id get it.
    but this is fine otherwise.

I don't think anyone outside of Lenovo would have any idea about that, but even on the rational basis that it would need to be significantly better than the Ivy Bridge GPU to even be worth the bother to implement, then it's good enough for me.

I'm considering getting the S430 (assuming it will have TB) + a TB PCIe enclosure for a desktop GPU (Vidock G4).
What do you guys think ?
Only thing I'm worried about is the heat of the external GPU + the heat of the internal CPU (wonder if the E530 can dissipate heat well ?)

I will go for this laptop + an external ThunderBolt GPU if it has decent cooling and mainstream CPU..

I'm waiting for the refreshed X1 which I am also hoping will have support for an external thunderbolt GPU solution. Same idea, but the X2 should be a bit smaller and thinner.

I was about buy E420 but when read news about laptops with TB ports it better to wait... Just hope the TB laptops will be compatible with eGPU solution..
any idea if the same ram used in e420 can be used or anything different is coming out? (have spare 4gb ram lying around unused :) )

Of course you can use your ram stick, just make sure the system runs on the same ram model if you have more than 1 stick. So far TB eGPU is achievable (check MSI GUS II). Con is it supports max tdp of 150 watt only. Any smaller vendor like Village Tronic can't get their hands on TB development kit yet.

    Eh. I'd rather go for a T430.
