Connecting to a wireless b network seems extremely slow on with my AGN adapter compared to other computers on the same network. Why is this? Intel's specs say that the AGN is fully compatible with A/b/G/N but websites browse very slowly and downloads go at 5kbps for about a minute and then freezes completely.

I am not sure if I can't connect properly to b networks because of driver issues or because of simple incompatibility. Prior to a recent system restore, I never tried connecting to a b network.

Anyone have insight on this issue?

What type of router are you using? Check the router and make sure that has the latest firmware. In my experience, horrendous speed problems are just as likely to be caused by the router of the connection. Also you could be getting speed capped, firewalled yourself, connected to the wrong network. If this is a business network its possible they need to add you to a whitelist to get the proper speeds. More information is helpful =)

check the driver, and the modem too, maybe you can try on some other wireless network to compare. IMO, I don't think it's because of the Wireless adapter.

hey guys thanks for the help,
So far, I've updated the router firmware and installed the drivers all over again with no improvement.

Im getting the drivers from here:
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-67853

So far I've installed the drivers for the Intel pro 4965AGN and the ibm access connections. I'm working with the assumption that recovery discs reinstalled at least some version of all the other drivers/software, and can't see any other particular drivers/software that might directly affect how fast the proAGN runs. Does anyone see something I missed?

everything in device manager also looks to be in place...

I will definitely try to connect to another b network soon but it doesn't seem like the network is an issue - other computers seem to connect to it fine. The network is a home network, and does not blacklist any IPs

let me know if there is any other sort of information that might be helpful, thanks in advance!

oh, and this is all on vista home premium

Every wireless problem I have had in the past two years was solved by getting 802.11n and "pre-n" instead of 802.11b and 802.11g

I've been having this same problem.

I just purchased a Thinkpad X61 with the 4965AGN and I have a Linksys B router that is ~3 years old. Other laptops (Sony, Dell, HP) all pick up the signal fine at full strength.

    Interesting things to note:

Immediately after getting the computer I downgraded to XP from Vista. When I installed the latest driver I accidentally ran the Vista .exe setup file. The wireless worked, but it wasn't recognized by Access Connections. I remember at this time that it was registering 11 Mbs. I do not remember whether I had time out problems. I uninstalled the drive and ran the correct .exe setup file for XP, and now I get 1 Mbs, sometimes 5 Mbs. I also get time out warnings about 1/5 of the time I open a webpage. Refreshing the page usually works.

My conclusion is the wireless driver has the problem, not the router. Maybe I will just go out and by a G or N router, but I'd rather not spend the money....

Has anyone checked Lenovo's forums about this? I'll do so when I get the time and post something if there isn't already.

linksys and intel agn don't like each other a lot. i just dumped my linksys router today and replaced it with actiontech gateway modem. wireless works flawlessly and fast now.
