Actually, if you have practically any credit card they are all running promotions with Lenovo for EPP discounts. I just bought mine on 12/18 for ~$750 less than identically configured model on the lenovo direct site. Call them. Tell them you forgot which credt card company sent you an email about the promotion. Give them one of your credit cards and ask them if that one works. Continue until they find one that does. I used my citibank mastecard but the promotion came with my MBNA (they both worked and I wanted AA miles for my mastercard). My rep said there were a lot of credit card companies running this promo. I do not know, however, when this promotion ends/ended.

Ask for a pre-configured model that is closest to what you want.

    Happy hunting.

If you run into problems (i don't know why you would), post here and I will give you the 800# on my epp/credit card promotion website.

I have found that the EPP is still slighly less expensive than credit card promotions (credit card promos being close to upwards of half the price of the public Lenovo site, depending on the machine).

I was told by the rep that the price I was paying was the same price he would be paying. If getting close to 40% off the website price isn't your bag, then I don't know what to tell you.

I don't even compare the EPP price to the website price, as the website price isn't even an option and only the grossly uninformed purchase straight from there. I am comparing EPP to credit card website, the credit card website being about 0 - 45% cheaper than the public website, depending on the machine. The EPP however, is usually an additional 0 - 12% less than the credit card site, again, depending on the machine.

I guess my rep was either a) uninformed or b) lying to me. Either way, I am happy with my price. Good luck on getting the extra 0-12%. Let me know how it goes.

    MOMO,

Just to be clear. My credit card promotion was advertised as employment pricing. I understand that some credit cards have a variety of promotions. I am sure you are infinitely more informed than I am inre this topic but I just wanted to clarify what was advertised and told to me.

I guess its possible that employees would get an additional discount below their regular discount during promotional periods such as this one.

Once again, good luck and let us know what your research turns up.

Okay, so the credit card promotion at the time was 'employee pricing'. I was treating EPP (employee pricing) and the credit card prices (which are more than less fixed - at a discount) as seperate pricing structures. On a regular 'non spectacular sale' day, the EPP will be cheaper than the credit card price (which doesn't have a 'you pay what we pay' attached to it).

Yes that 'employee pricing' usually becomes available to the mass market once a year or so. But some credit cards offer a discounted price regardless of the specials being promoted. (Just a contract they have with Lenovo I suppose).

Your credit card company must have had a one time special on, whereas the cards I deal with, have a discounted price always.

So you are saying you have looked into it and I probably did, in fact, get EPP pricing? Thats what I thought but I wasn't sure after you posted. In any case, if you are familiar with lenovo, check out my post from a couple minutes ago "post set-up impressions". Thanks.

i would appreciate more info on that too. i called the normal line, and I asked about any EPP pricing with citibank or mastercard, and he said I would be better off with the student discount (which is about 15% off the model i'm configuring).

he did refer me to a mastercard website, but they only offer 5-10% off.

is it just that the EPP pricing deal ended? Or was the rep not being entirely truthful?

I don't know when the prmotion ends(ed). I definitely got EPP pricing. It was advetised as such in am email I received from my credit card. I had since deleted the email but had bookmarked the webpage tied to the link in the email. On that webpage there was an 800 #. Also, the pre-configured in-stock models will be far cheaper. Also, the pre-confugured models will be tons cheaper than identically configured custom models (if you configure on the web, for example).

Here is my rep's info--call him and ask him about the EPP credit card promotion and if it is still going on:

I have a friend who works for IBM, so I get "real" EPP pricing, regardless of any other promotions that may or may not be happening. The discounts vary, though. Some of the more popular models are only discounted $300-$400, while the less popular/more expensive models may be $800-$1000 off. It all depends.

For what it's worth, I recently custom-configured a T60, and it came out cheaper than the pre-built model with the same specs, except that I got XP Home instead of XP Pro. I'm an MSDN subscriber, so I've got all the Windows I need---why pay more for something I've already got? :)

Also Lenovo has a EPP program for Federal Government Employees. So if you have a relative who works for the Federal Government they can get it for you.
