I have been having trouble with my Lenovo E520 recently, and brought it up on the Windows 7 page however, no one has responded, so I though't I'd reach out to a different group of people who may be better at answering my question. Instead of retyping everything, I'll just copy and paste what I wrote in the forums to save time:
"I have recently having problems with booting Windows 7 on my computer. When I load windows, it goes into the boot screen, and stays there indefinitely, which for a while, I could not figure out the problem. I'll start from when I started having these problems. About a week prior to this happening, I partitioned my hard drive and loaded Ubuntu onto that partition, but still regularly used Windows for that week with no problems. Later, I had logged onto my computer one night with no problems, then proceeded to load firefox. I got opened a youtube video and my computer started to act extremely slow. I was able to press start and shut down, as I had no other choice. When it rebooted, it went to the boot screen and stayed there. For about three weeks I could not figure out why I was having this problem, I even ran a memory test. Once I tried loading it again and it recommended a diagnostic utility which I had proceeded to load. After it was complete, it had a long list of the diagnostics that it ran and told me if there was an error or not. All the way on the bottom it said "Error Code 0x45d A patch is preventing the system from starting" but the utility had made it appear that it fixed the problem. I restarted to windows and off coarse, the same booting problem. I am thankful that I have linux to use in the mean time, but why do you think I am having this problem? I have researched the error code and have found multiple people telling saying that it is the hard drive failing or already failed. I don't see how this could be as Ubuntu works fine and my laptop is only about 7 months old. I take care of this laptop it still looks brand new and I know what NOT to do to make sure the hard drive lasts (i.e. moving it around when on, ect.) I know people say hard drives go and it doesn't matter how old it is, but it is still only 7 months, I would expect it to last longer.

    Here are my laptop specs:
    Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E520
    Intel core i5-2410M
    8GB ddr3 ram 1333mhz
    500 gb 7200rpm hard drive
and all the other basic things

Also, I have one last related issue. I have tried to load into a complete computer diagnostic through the bios, but I can't seem to figure out how to do it. While the computer is on the Lenovo screen, I have hit the function keys (with and without the Fn key) but the computer ignores it. How do I load the bios, boot setup, ect on this laptop?

Thanks for any help you can give!!"

I don't want to sound impatient by posting this again, it's just that if I shouldn't be using my computer because of a bad hard drive, it would be nice to know. Again, any help will be appreciated!! :)

The error code tends to point to an I/O device error so most likely it's down to a failing hard drive. Since it's still only 7 months old you can ask for a warranty replacement of the drive, a bit unfortunate under the circumstances but you should be able to get a new one in place.

Thank you soon much for responding, you are the only one out of two forums to actually give me your time. I did read it as being an I/O error elseware, but I don't believe it is a bad hard drive since I can log onto Linux with no problem, I doubt only a section of my hard drive would be bad in this instance. Is there any other reason for this kind of error?

Since you can access Ubuntu Linux try verifying the drive status, this site should help you on how to do this procedure. If it turns out to be fine you can attempt a reinstall of Windows as it may have just corrupted itself, but if it does come up with an SMART error then there's little point masking the problem with a reinstall so you should request for a new replacement drive at that point.
