    Hi,

I'm considering a E520 for my mom, however looking at the pictures of this laptop I really think the TouchPad is located in a strange place. I'm writing this on my T500 which has the TouchPad located a little to the left, but the E520 has it placed a LOT further to the left.

Isn't this a pain? I mean, when writing, the left palm would rest on the TocuhPad so it seems.

    Any comments on this?

Actually, quite the contrary. The E520 has a numpad, which pushes the keyboard to the left also. So, with respect to the normal ThinkPad touchpad placement, (centered under the trackpoint), it is in the exact same spot. I like this placement better than other placements on other laptops with numpads because I find myself resting my palm on them, a lot.

Probably a bit awkward to use on an actual lap, where you'd either left bias your hands and hurt your wrists or right bias the laptop and risk having it slide off your legs. (Almost experienced with a friend's 16" SONY laptop, which in itself should have been dropped onto the floor multiple times just to put it out of it's Samsung Spinpoint-caused misery.)

The E520 has the standard touchpad placement of laptops with a numpad. The touchpad is usually centered below the space bar, as that is the most accessible position if your hands are placed over the keyboard. I do agree that it does feel awkward, though, which is one reason why I dislike laptops with numpads.
