I'm debating on the E420s and the T420. I want a laptop for long battery, slim, light, and can do casual gaming.
E420s Specs:
i5 2410M
Intel HD 3000
4GB RAM
250 HDD
??? Battery
T420 Specs:
i5 2410M
Intel HD 3000
2GB RAM
250GB HDD
9cell Battery

If you are not considering the 6630m that is going to be available soon for the E420s, then the T420 would be a better option if I have to decide between those two.
The T420 would be more robust while the E420s is more sleek and trendy. T420 are also available in HD+ screen and a longer battery, of course the E420s will be more slim and light.

I say neither. Go for the Y460p instead for gaming:
Lenovo IdeaPad Y460p
Intel core i7-2630QM 2.0GHz
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 6550M 1GB
8GB RAM
500GB
6-cell battery
14-inch
4.7lb.

It would be more helpful to know how much battery life(In hours), how slim, how light, what kind of games and the settings you would like to play at.
-
Which has more battery?
-
The T420 has better battery life.
-
Consider cost too. I believe the E420 is cheaper.
-
T420 has better battery.
but the E420s is thinner and sleeker.
Which can play better? And how much battery difference are we talking about. How long can each last? -
Those two laptops are gaming-equivalent, as they both have Intel HD 3000 graphics.
If you go for the T420 discrete model you get a bit more gaming muscle.
Also, that T420 and the E420 will last the same amount of time with the same number of battery cells. But the T420 has a 9-cell option where the E420s doesn't so the T420 will last longer.
But the thing is also durability. Do you expect the Edge to withstand a foot on the lid, or falling off a table? It'll bang up that nice shiny chrome... -
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
Since that edge has a 6630m, it will game much better
the t420 apparently has around 8hs
if we use the vaio SB as an example (same config) the edge should last 6h -
I'm not going to be stepping on my laptop or anything. :/
Decisions, are so hard to make. -
Battery life depends on how you set up the battery options and what you do with the system. Games or movies and you will get a tad under 3 hours. Internet usage, Word applications, email and downloading some pictures, and having the screen brightness and other settings set lower and you will see a big jump in time. Everyone is a little different.

For me, it's easy. I won't buy a ThinkPad that doesn't come with the original ThinkPad keyboard, so it would be the T420.
You'll have to decide for yourself whether the E420 keyboard works for you. It wouldn't for me.
E420s vs. T420 (Which to buy?)
