I was watching the service videos for the E220s and noticed that it only had a single so-dimm slot. 'Was wondering what that meant for the memory configuration; is it 2gb on board+2gb in the dimm, or is it a single 4gb stick. Also, if it is the latter, does the system not function in a dual channel configuration? Perhaps someone who currently owns a 4gb unit could fire up CPU-Z and shed some light on the situation.
The X1 seems to share this same single slot design decision, anyone know the reason Lenovo is shifting over to single slots for it's thinner units?
Bonus round , anyone know were I can get my hands on a couple of those 8gb single sodimms that are available on the X1?
Deciding on what to buy is always such a difficult choice, so many great options, and I only looking at the thinkpad line!

Part of the answer right there, it is indeed 1x4GB. Still unsure why Lenovo is moving away from two dimm solutions. And from what I have read the X1 seems to be running a single channel mode. Not sure why they did not, at least, solder on a 2GB stick for an "L-Shaped" dual channel configuration. -
They describe it as being 1 DIMM... So we have to ditch the 2GB if we want 4GB total. At least it's not soldered on.

Definitely a single slot design. I opened my E220s up to add an mSATA boot drive and checked it out. I suspect that a second slot would have been included but there just does not seem to be enough room to stuff one into it!

I ended up ordering the Kingston HyperX 1866Mhz 2x4GB kit when I ordered my e220s. I Could not find a reputable dealer of 1x8GB so dimms.
Sadly Kingston does not sell the 4gb sticks in singles, so just burnt a stick. Most expensive 4gb of ram I have ever bought.
