I have 6 dust specs in my LCD. Not sure how they've made their way there but on a white background (notepad), I can visibly see 6 specs. 3 of which is quite prominent and 3 are more subtle. Also there are two spots in which the white is much whiter.

I do travel quite a bit with this laptop but the unit is only 6 month old. I plan to call lenovo and get this problem rectified but I'm wondering are there any way to prevent this from happening again? I suspect the dust comes from where the LCD\bezel meets. I wonder if using thin tape (between the LCD and the bezel) would prevent dust from entering.

I also had a few specs of dust on my T500 which I sold. However it had less dust after 4years of use than my 6month old X230. Quite disappointing.

Well, both of the Thinkpad's that I have owned (X1 & L430), both of them just have the bezel surrounding the LCD. The LCD is completely separate from the bezel, as in there is no protective cover between you and the LCD besides what is built into the LCD. When I replaced the LCD on my L430 (computer was dropped -> cracked screen), there was a piece of protective plastic over the new LCD that I took off before I put the bezel back on, but other than that, I can't think of anything that would stop dust from getting into the screen.

For a visual example of what I was trying to explain, look at this: (Image courtesy of iFixit)

Dust travels. If you have an IPS screen, historically they've been more prone to dust specs than TN ones, so it might make you feel a pinch better.

White spots are pressure marks. Lenovo will generally treat these as "user induced".

There's absolutely nothing that you can do apart from saying a prayer to the deity of your choice. Take it from someone who had more screens swapped by both IBM and Lenovo over the past decade than he would dare count, for this particular issue.

    Good luck.

That's too bad that there is no real solution. Perhaps I am pickier than the average user.

I don't think you're being picky - dust specs are outright nasty and annoying IMO - and I'll take a stuck pixel or two over a dust spec any day of the week.
