    Hi,

I recently chose to purchase the IBM X40 notebook. I got a sweet deal (IMO)on a x40 subnote, which I recieved today. In the deal is only included one years waranty, and that's is why I'm considering byuing an extended waranty. The price of 3 years total waranty will be app. 10% of the purchase value, and in case of a total damage I will have to pay another 10 percent of the purchase value. This adds up to 20% menaning that one in every fith IBM laptop should malfunction within 3 years.

I'm a student, so money is quite an issue in this consideration. I'm very interested in your opinion with regards to whether or not to buy the extended waranty (since i find my self in a little dilemma).

Also I'm thinking of adding another 512 mb of ram (to a total of 768). In that case I'm wondering if any brands in particular are compatible/non-compatible (thinking of Kingston atm.)

    Thx!

    Regards
    Jacob

I am also a student. Since I will carry my thinkpad everywhere I plan to buy the thinkpad protection to cover all accidents that may occur. However, that is more of a matter of paranoia.

From what I read here, most will say if your notebook is going to have problems, it usually happens in the first year. After that, you are relatively safe.

If you live in the US, there is a thread in the hardware section that discusses extended warranty and other possible options.

edit: I just saw you don't live in the US, but those options still might apply where you live.

Actually, I just discovered by calling IBM and checking the S/N today the notebook apparently is covered by three years waranty. This is quit weird, since the it is listed @ the dealer with 1 year waranty, but what the hell - problem solved :)

    thx anyway
