Guys, does anyone of you know if the new Mobo's lenovo is using for thinkpads have dual channel capabilities even with uneven sticks of ram? For instance, I order my Z61m with 1.5 Gb. I know that there are lots of threads on this particular question, but recently I was told that the new generation of Mobo's made by intel afte 2005 have this new feature; as long as there are at least two sticks of ram of unequal size and spec inserted in the Mobo, the system will still dual channel. Is that really true? Thanks

No chipset can run dualchannel with a "uneven" ram configuration.
Would be a pain to implement.
However, on most of today's computers, dualchannel doesn't make a noticeable difference anyway, so I wouldn't really worry about it.

About 5%, don't stress. Upgrade the 512 MB to 1GB when you need to. I am running the same configuration and don't notice any difference from my 2GB e1505.

This statement is false. There IS chipset that allowed different size combination while maintaining dual channel capability. Please always re-check your facts before posting.

Some Z61m is equipped with Intel 945P Express with Intel Flex Technology. It gives users a more flexible memory upgrade option by allowing different memory sizes to be installed while maintaining dual-channel mode/performance.

Please check Intel detail spec for every chipset you have.

With unequal size ram sticks it looks like you will be running in "Dual-Channel Asymmetric" mode so you will not get the performance benefit of interleaved channel accesses.
