I have just installed Vista 64 bit on my new X61s, but I get some driver errors. I have installed all things from system update. In Device Manager I got errors on Biometric Coprocessor and Network Controller. What have I done wrong?
-
Can you check your driver versions with this page?
-
Hmm I will try, but can system update not do the job with X61s?
-
System Update does not get the drivers for the fingerprint reader and the wireless card. You can get the drivers for the wireless card here:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-67971
And the fingerprint drivers/software can be downloaded from here:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/TVAN-EAPFPR.html -
From my own experience it does not always find the newest driver. When i did my own clean install, i manually installed the drivers just to make sure i was getting the correct driver. Let's see what driver versions you got.
-
Ok thanks
But I think it is very bad, that system update not can do the job
-
But I am going to download all the drivers manual, so I am sure I got them all, and get the new
-
That's a lot of drivers and updates you'll have to manually install then. System Update got all the latest software when I did my fresh install of Vista.
-
Sounds good. Make sure you reboot after each driver install, so you can locate the problem driver if a problem does comes up.
Are you going to do the clean install again, or are you just going to uninstall drivers? -
I am going to take af clean install. But yes there is alot of drivers on that site, and I do not think I need them all

Anything I do not need, or forgot? -
Can i reference you to stallen's thread in my sig. He has a list of basically all the essential drivers worth downloading at the moment. If the X61 is anything like the T61, you'll need Access Connection to be able to turn on the internal bluetooth switch, otherwise the Bluetooth driver you have outlined above will not install correctly.
-
Actually, you don't. Not for T61, not for X61. The internal bluetooth switch can be controlled as long as you have the hotkey driver installed. I know this because I don't have Access Connections installed and when I press FN+F5, I can access the options for wi-fi on/off and bluetooth on/off. It is a dialog box that's a lot simpler and watered down than Access Connections, but shows up upon FN+F5, still controls all wireless activity, saves a lot of memory, and isn't redundant (Vista wireless utility is perfectly fine). Again, more claims without justifications.
That's my justification. Doesn't look like Access Connections to me.
Save yourself the trouble of having to download every single driver. Download ThinkVantage System Update and nab all the drivers you need by running that program. -
It's nice to know i have a fan club, or maybe a stalker?
Anyways, i initially had both the Hot Keys driver and Lenovo System Interface installed. I could not get the bluetooth driver to install until i had installed Access Connections.
Edit: PS, show me where i EVER claimed to be an expert Johnny? -
Nobody is stalking you. I check out all unread threads in the Lenovo/IBM section, and make responses as necessary. As you can see in my post history (yet another indication that you don't do enough research before making claims), the majority of threads I post in are not infected by your presence.
Installing the bluetooth driver requires that the bluetooth be powered on, which is why you perceive Access Connections to be necessary for BT to be installed. However, as I've shown, turning it on does not require Access Connections. Therefore, you do not need to install Access Connections to install the bluetooth driver.
Moreover, you are humble enough to not have claimed you are an expert. Kudos! But, you seemed to construe my recent comment about you making things up as some sort of flamebait; here, I am trying to show that that is nothing but a statement of truth. You happened to start the argument on your own terms, which are also made up out of thin air. -

That's how your respond when getting clowned on? Man, wave the white flag already. Anyone who reads this thread will lose any respect for you. -
I have now installed all the drivers on the list, and Lenovo System Interface Driver, but the FN keys do not work? And I still have two erros in Device manager. Biometric Coprocessor and Unknown device. What in the hell do I wrong?
-
Maybe I can not use Vista 64 bit on this laptop. Maybe I should try Vista 32 bit
-
I now tryed with both manual drivers and system update, and now my FN keys work
but i still get one error ind device manager biometric coprocessor. What is that?
