Well, after having upgraded to Vista Ultimate, it turned out to be a big pain, slow loading times, and too many compatability errors.

I was looking for a method to downgrade directly into Windows XP, but there seems to be a bunch of issues that could come up...

First off, the TPM chip, dont know whats gonna happen once I downgrade and restart.

Another is, SATA hdd? Whats gonna happen with that?

I'm going to follow this as the basic guidelines of getting everything back

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/933168/en-us

Though I'm guessing that I will probably havta reinstall everything.

    Any suggestions?

Do a rollback of sorts following the knowledge base, or just a clean format?

Oyeah, this is a T60, got it about...a few months ago?

Was XP Home, but I upgraded to Vista.

I wouldn't even do all of that. Just do a clean install and make sure you have your Xp drivers on a separate disc for easy install.

Seriously you're far better off doing a clean install instead of tip-toeing around a downgrade.

Ok cool, so just a quick go over:

Download all Thinkpad and other misc drivers on disc, then format and reinstall XP?

    Sounds easy enough.

That's the way to go. Have all of the drivers available then when you are going thru the install process you will get the option to delete the partition and format it with the NTFS file system then you are good to go.

Wait!! not as simple! Check this guide. It seems to work for everybody but me, I've already tried it two times and can't get the sound drivers to install

Hrm. That guide applies to T61's though, not T60.

    Similar problems?

I'm just doing a clean install after a full format.

Though I'm going to be using DBAN to wipe my hdd, to make sure it's completely clean (so that I remove the hidden partition that Vista made).

    T60

    Widescreen
2.0 Ghz Dual Core (Think its Core 2 Duo, not too sure, will edit later when I get a chance to check)
    2 Gb of Ram
    160 GB HDD
Currently running Vista Ultimate (was XP Home when I got it, did the Digital Upgrade)

Main reason for downgrading again is a constant popup at startup about TPM and drivers and something being blocked thats associated with that. Not only that, everything runs extremely slow (which is surprising, since my friend has Vista, but everything runs rather smooth) whether it be returning from sleep mode, shutting down, starting up. Somehow Windows Update likes to die on me, and I cant seem to get ThinkVantage System Update to work anymore...it just freezes.

I have no idea though, it was acting a little wierd in the first place, once I upgraded. Probably because of all the compatability errors, but now they're gone, due to huge amounts of updating done. Though the only error that could be associated with compatability would probably be the TPM error that I mentioned before.

Though the main thing thats been really annoying me was the updates. I cant update anything via the Windows Update in Control Panel, and I havent tried going directly to the Microsoft site to do it.
