Can I still get the downgrade cd from Lenovo? I purchased my t61 late last year. Love it but my sister's 14.1 t61 seems to run a bit quicker on xp and I wanted to give it a go. Do I just call Levenovo for xp restore disc? Will it be a clean install or more along the lines of what came with my laptop originally. What about when I want to go back to vista? Oh and I also heard that the vista serial works for XP. In that case can I just use the clean XP install guide on the forum?

I'm not too sure about Ultimate, but with Business you can. Just call Lenovo and ask.

No matter what disc you get, always use the "clean XP install guide"

I'll give them a call when I get a chance. The fact that Ultimate is more $$ gives me hope I can grab XP.

In that case, emilio84, you'll be able to get the XP.

you in fact do qualify with either Ultimate or Business. But you may be charged for the media from Lenovo. Here is a link from a quick search on Google. Lenovo lays it out here. Unfortunately you cant really "downgrade" the OS, only new install. Too many changes in Vista I guess to make that happen. So really you only downgrade the actual OS, but you will lose everything on your hard drive.

    Hi Emilio,
    1. either Bussiness or Ultimate qualify you for usage of windows xp professional and windows xp professional x64 (the 64bit version)
    2. if you want to do it you'll have to install new system from scratch
    3. you can
    - order the installation media from lenovo
    - in advance download all of the drivers from lenovo web site (this has the advantage of up-to date drivers) and then borrow any windows xp inst. media (e.g. from friend) and use it with what-ever inst. serial number ..... some pple are confused, asking if they're not doing anything illegal to use *any* working key during install - answer is *no* because at the end of installation, you use activation over the phone (either you dont have it connecten to internet yet, or it says, copy of windows is not genuine), when you call there, you say, you have notebook with vista bu or ult. and you tell them the system generated installation code - they check it and reply you with new install code you fill into you activation window ... you're done with activation of windows ...
