Here's my dilemma, I ordered an x61s (ultralight, 1.8ghz, 4 year protection, 1270$) last week to replace the trusty x31 I've had for 3 years.A week later I see on the lenovo outlet an X60 tablet, 1.66ghz, Multitouch screen, 3 year base warranty for 899$, I need to add the thinkpad protection and the total comes down to 1100$.

Now I'm very tempted to go woith the tablet simply because it's something different from what I normally have. I'm not sure if I really need the tablet functionality but I can find uses for it (easier to watch movies, checking stock at the warehouse). I'm just scared of the size/weight difference and the build quality from the x61s. I am *rough* with my laptops, the thinkpad protection is like a life saver to me, I've used it over 4-5 times on my x31. I also need something portable, the x31 was perfect for my needs, I definitely liked the size of the x41 I tried at work but it wasn't a definite must.

What laptop do you guys suggest I should keep?

Personally I would go for the X61s based on the size/weight/portability/battery life/X3100 graphics. In addition, I absolutely love the design and form factor of the X61/X61s.

I have fiddled around with some tablets in the past, and while they are interesting (and have a certain wow factor), I found that I did not need or use the tablet functions.

But at the end of the day, you should know best if you would want a tablet instead. Needless to say, no one can tell you what your needs are.

I would say that if you feel like you don't need the tablet function, the novelty will wear off after you get it. My feeling is you will get more use out of the X61s.
