    Hi folks,

Quick question: does your T500 make a bit of noise when you tilt it side-to-side?

I just received mine, and there is noise like internal components are slightly shifting around when I tilt it. It's not the battery, since it occurs when the battery is out as well.

    Thanks!

That might be the hard drive being stopped by the active protection things. Whenever it detects a shock to the laptop, it stops the hard drive, which makes a weird sound that i guess could be interpreted as something shifting.

I've had mine for about a month and it makes that noise you describe.....sounds like little gyros or a sensor. I'm not worried about it. BTW: I love mine, how do you like yours??

In quite a different context, this would be revealing... :D

Yeah, mine makes a noise when being tilted as well. It seems to be coming from the ultrabay, unless you're talking about something else. But I'm not worried about it either

Yup, I think at least part of it is. I took out the DVD from the Ultrabay and there's a small metal piece that swings back and forth, which probably causes part of the noise. However, there's still a second noise that comes from the left side of the laptop (and they are separate noises, since if I tilt it slowly, I hear the sound on one side, then a similar sound on the other side. Perhaps it's the other spindle?

Good thought, but it happens when the computer is turned off, even with the battery out, so I think it's unrelated.

I know I'll like it since it's a Thinkpad, but I essentially haven't used it since I'm waiting on my SSD to arrive, and can't set up the computer 'til then.
I did turn it on to check a few things though. It has the LG screen at 1680x1050, and the viewing angles and resolution are awesome.
I was surprised to find that the keyboard is more clackety than I'd prefer (it's the Alps keyboard).

Yes, and no. There are two separate noises (one coming from the right and the other from the lower left. I think the one from the right is from the Ultrabay, but I'm not sure what the one on the left is from.
