I have a new X61 and I have noticed one annoying problem:
Everytime I close the lid, the some of the keys on the keyboard and the trackpoint leaves an impression/mark on the screen. Thankfully, it's not permanent, but requires me to constantly clean the screen.
I want to know how many Thinkpad owners have this problem?
I'm worried that eventually the keyboard will leave a permanent mark on the screen.
For the X series voters, can you mention if you have the X61/X60, X61s/X60s, or X tablet
EDIT: Now I am upset. I have 3 permanent marks from the keyboard and a circular mark from the trackpoint that I cannot clean off. Anyone think I can complain to Lenovo calling this a manufacturing defect and hope they will replace the screen?

You can get one of those thin plastic pads/cloths that fit to your specific keyboard. I have seen them on a Toshiba and a couple macs.
-
my T61 14.1" is fine.
-
My 14.1" T61 is fine as well, but with a little pressure on the lid, the only mark I would get is a slight TrackPoint oil mark. Hardly noticeable and easily wiped off.
-
With all my ThinkPads I've occasionally gotten a mark, but have always been able to clean it off. It usually happens when I put it in a bag with other stuff when it gets cramped.
-
I think the T61 is designed with room so that the Keyboard doesn't ever come into contact with the lid.

I have uesed a lot of Thinkpad. I got this small issue with T41p, T60p and X31. Most time it use to be when I place them with a lot of stuff in my case. Also, it only happens with the new red cap. The old erazor head never hit the screen.
One year, I use a Dell Latitude D600. Trackpoint AND half the keyboard were *printed* on screen and it was non removable. -

my trackpoint does... :/

I have a T61p and the keys leave marks in the keyboard. Nothing too viisible, though.
-
I have the marks but they can all be cleaned off. For now at least.

I reported that issue in a thread I made about my damaged LCD on my lost 14.1" T61P.
I checked my friends T61P and he's having the issue as well. The only way to fix it is to prevent it beforehand by putting a microfiber cloth on the keyboard or a piece of paper if you're "economical" before closing the lid. That's all I see, because once the marks are there, you can't wipe em off even with LCD cleaning products and a good cloth. -

I have the x61, I usually get a mark from the trackpoint and sometimes the space bar. But on the terms of permanent damage I have received none.
-
I see no marks on my R61e or my R61i.
-
on my R61, trackpoint only.
-
My T61 trackpoint's mark is visible on the screen, but only when light is shining on the screen.
Going by the polls for T series(as of now), almost half of them got this problem and half of them do not. Perhaps those with this problem carry their laptops in tight spaces? Causing the lid to fully pressed down? I myself carry my T61 in a notebook sleeve. -

I rarely transport my T61p so I don't have this problem with marks on the screen. It's very likely due to pressure on the lid pressing it into the keyboard.
Does your Lenovo keyboard leave a mark on the screen?
