Simple question, my laptop is due within the next week and so far I have read that it is NOT capable with 5 ghz? Just asking because for my sakes, my microwave runs on the same frequency (2.4) and ruins my connection quite often actually. So to any current owners tell me if it's available or not that would be great, thanks!

    I'm 90% sure it does, however I don't have a 5ghz network around so I can't be certain.

Actually, after googling the network card, I don't think it does. I might have been thinking of a different network adapter when I posted the previous reply :-\

It does not. It cannot see my 5Ghz network. Intel shows 2.4 only. I'm trying a replacement on Wednesday. I'll see if the rumors of no whitelist on this system are true.

Is this a huge problem? For example, if I were to go to a friend's house, MOST likely they would have a 2.6gHz network right? What about university networks?

2.4ghz is the common frequency. 5.0ghz is newer one that isn't as common. I'd be worry if your wlan somehow cannot pick up 2.4ghz channels. I wouldn't worry about not being able to pick up 5.0ghz channels.

Most places support both. For the forseeable life of these systems 2.4 will be the predominant wifi available in the wild. However, some businesses might only support 5Ghz for the corporate network while 2.4 is only for guests but again that is not likely to impact you.

    Cheers,

And that is a NO. The whitelist still exists and a BIOS hack is required to use a real WiFi card that supports 5Ghz.

    Cheers,
