    Does the T61 have a thermal shutdown

    While my new W520 is running cool as a cucumber my old T61 is acting up.

    It is going into a phase where it enters standby or hibernation (I think standby as it doesn't save the desktop or files) for no reason.

    And it will not recover from standby or more accurately it will recover but immediately will enter standby again without booting up.

    I have also noticed it getting abnormally hot lately. Now that may be because my W520 is so cool by comparison.

    However I do wonder if there is a thermal switch for standby that is being activated.

    Yes it does as long you didn't have the modified bios.

    What CPU do you have on the T61?

    mine is cool as a radish, so there must be something with your T61. Check if the heatsink has moved/detached from the CPU, thus causing the heat issues
