I wish I was rich and could afford to pay $14 a GB for a drive (when the price is down to $899). I can't believe that the extra battery life is worth that much.

To answer your question, the T61 motherboard sports the ICH8M-Enhanced I/O Controller Hub, which supports SATA II, SATA 3gb, and all of the rest of that SATA specs.

Thanks for the info, Ben. I'm with ya - although I'm spoiled by my 15.5K Cheetah U320's on my desktop, I'm not about to spend $1100 on a beefy laptop that I only paid $1000 for (with EPP discount!).

I find that overall my T61p is as fast as my desktop with an extreme and a pair of cheetahs.

I think the first SCSI I ever bought was in the early nineties. It was one GB and cost $1000. ! gb was considered huge at the time.

I remember drooling over $300 hard drives in the late eighties because my computer did not have a hard drive, only floppies.

That $300 hard drive was 20MB.....Yes that is an M.

$300 for 20MB is piddly... how about $2000 for 20MB even further back in the day :)
