suppose it's plugged in and i were to game with it. would it overheat while gaming if i have dedicated graphics on? is it safe to game for extended periods of time with it?

I am not sure what you exactly mean by overheating, over 70 celsius or so hot that the computer auto shutdown? However, it's safe to game on T400 for extended periods of time as it has one of the best integrated cooling system and low wattage components, which makes it one of those few systems that run at low temperature. In addition, you could get accessories like notebook cooler pads that help lower the temperature of your system up to 10 degree celsius. Hope this helps.

by overheating, i mean that the computer gets so hot that it auto shuts down or suffers damage from the heat. as long as this doesn't happen, i would be ok wtih it because i won't be using it in my lap anyways. though hopefully, i won't burn my hand just from accidentally touching the wrong part of the system while i'm gaming .
i worried and asked this question because kevin's review here on the site says that "gaming did seem to make it run on the high side". "it" meaning temperatures. -
My T400 has never overheated while gaming. The AC adapter doesn't even get hot while gaming.

I'm thinking about buying a T400 in the near future, so it'd be great if anyone could post temperatures (screenshot from CPUID Hardware Monitor or something) from normal usage and also while gaming with dedicated graphics.
Thanks :] -
The T400 will not overheat unless you are in a room with a really bad thermal control system (e.g. using it in a desert climate in the summer without AC). Even then, I am pretty sure that it would downclock the components and limit performance to reduce heat buildup BEFORE it shut down due to overheating.
Does the T400 ever overheat?
