I've been considering a 14" Lenovo with an X1600, but not after checking out a Z60t at Microcenter. The 1440x900 14" was bluish, and had a strange fuzzy look, like you get with a poor quality VGA cable. One of the worst LCD displays I've ever seen. I had made sure the resolution was set to native, with no font smoothing. So is it safe to assume that they use the same panel?
My Dell 700m has a really good screen, so I wouldn't want to downgrade.

They're different types of screens. A direct comparison is more difficult. A matte screen are not in general as bright as glossy screens. If you like glossy screens, you should probably look elsewhere.
-
Well I do prefer glossy, but I don't know if the matte coating is the cause of the poor quality. My 2405fpw has the matt coating, and it looks fine, just not as clear. It definately shouldn't cause the screen to be blue. Does the new R61 have a glossy screen?

ThinkPads don't do glossy. I saw a WXGA+ matte Z60t. I thought the screen was pretty decent though obviously not as bright as a glossy. Perhaps the screen on the one you saw was defective.
-
Yeah I saw a WXGA+ Z61T screen recently too and it was pretty nice.
-
I don't think it was defective. I've seen lots of screens on store demos with the same not-so-sharp and blue look

My niece's HP laptop, which I think has a 15" screen, looks very similar. The same blue tint and unsharp text. Are these panels so common that people, including enthusiasts on this forum, think it's normal?
Does the R61 have the same screen as the V60? Both 14" 1440x900
