Does the Intel Wireless card on the T61 work with Super G on Wireless Routers?
-
no it will not work
-
Actually.... I think it does.
If i remmebr correctly mine connected at 112 (or so)

It will "work" with super G routers, but it will not connect at the super G speeds. If you have an atheros(thinkpad wireless) chipset, you might have a shot at getting it to work with a Dlink router as they use the same mfg for their internals.

Super G is an Atheros only thing. (I beleive its mostly done by using a wider channel)
Unless the router is set to super G only all non-atheros based devices will just connect at normal 802.11G speeds. If the router is set to super G only then you can't connect with a non-atheros card but I think most new router firmware doesn't give that option anymore because of all the problems it caused. -
nope it doesn't work -
Is speedboost (linksys) different than Super G ?
-- -
Yes, Linksys uses Broadcom chipsets which uses a different proprietary way to increase the speed of 802.11g.
Basically When 802.11b was out for awhile TI came out with 802.11b+ as the 2x speed 22Mb version to increase the speed (later increased to 4x or 44Mb) The only devices that worked at that speed was devices using the TI chipset as it was a proprietary extension to 802.11b.
Once 802.11g came out the different chipset manufactures again tried to destinguish themselves by adding on proprietary methods of making it even faster. Atheros called their method Super G and the others went with other names.

Broadcom makes atheros, no ?
So how come the thinkpad AGN doesn't support speedboost?
In fact in the configuration i don't see anything that would suggest that it has additional proprietary G speed boosting abilities.

Look at the link in my last post. Broacom and Atheros are two different companies who make 802.11 chipsets. Broadcom had one propretary method of increasing 802.11g and atheros had another. Linksys, dlink, Netgear, and the rest don't actually make the wireless parts in their devices, they use the chipsets from the different chipset venders (similar to how laptops use AMD and Intel for their CPU)
As the Thinkpad card is atheros based it won't support speedboost. It may or may not have the Super G functionality exposed as I've neer seen it. (sometimes proprietary functionality is hidden because it makes it seem less standard)
