I have 2gb of ram in my comp right now, I'm thinking about upgrading to 3 GB but I'm worried about voiding the warranty. I bought the 3 year depot warranty.

Also, right now I have 2 1GB sticks. If I leave one of the 1 GB sticks and add a 2GB stick, would that be bad? I know I've heard conflicting views. Some people say that both slots should have the same size and others say it doesn't matter.

My last question is what is the best quality ram to get?

    Thanks in advance

Installing RAM does not void the warranty. For best performance, both sticks should be of the same size. For general tasks though, it does not really matter. When buying RAM, stick with a reputable make such as Kingston, Crucial, Corsair or OCZ.

Adding your own memory does not void the warranty. I was recently involved with a dispute over this with a Lenovo service center. The laptop went to Lenovo but my warranty was not voided for the memory (and other things).

its kinda like changing your oil or an air filter on a new car. most manufacturers know your gonna do it, thats why you can buy ram from them after the fact and install it yourself. dell especially allows users to replace FRU's on their own. just depends on what it is.

Don't forget to always check for the Lifetime Warranty
