Well, my question is about the Ideapad Y580. I recently ordered one, but am hesitant to open it because I bought it from Newegg (I had store credit, so it had to be from Newegg). They do not allow refunds on opened laptops for some stupid reason.

Anyways, I want to know one thing before I open mine: is it somewhat comfortable to use/ is it portable? By portable, I mean the ability to use it comfortably on your lap and take it to places like the living room, etc. At around 6 pounds, it's a bit on the heavier side of things.

So, does the weight/size of the Y580 have much effect on how comfortable it is to use on your lap/on a bed? Or is it one of those laptops that you just leave on your desk? I really want to be sure of this before I open it.

    Thanks.

Trust me, it'll be fine on the bed and you'll get use to weight in no time. That's exactly the way I felt when I was first comparing a Y570 to DV6, both were pretty much identical in terms of performance but the HP weighed much less.

I then looked up and saw pictures of the Y570's cooling/heatsink online and that explained everything. Lenovo makes great multimedia laptops now (started with 2011 series IMHO) and you can find reviews, pictures and videos of the Y580 online by just Google search.

Note: If you planning on putting the laptop on the bed you my wanna consider a laptop pad or cooler so the intake fan gets fresh air to the internal heatsink, otherwise you're setting yourself up for cooking the laptop in less than 6 months and Lenovo's warranty service is pretty slow and painful for their IdeaPad line.

I can suggest these two if you looking for comfort, mobility and performance:

Comforter - Cooler Master - Has no noise and light weight, lefts laptop bottom up for airflow.

Logitech.com - More expensive, has a adjustable speed fan but will likely be more noisy and less convenient due to USB fan cable.
