Does anyone actually have the GOBI LTE?

All, given there seems to be confusion regarding this issue, I'm curious if anyone who has received their X1C actually has the GOBI LTE card (ATT) installed?

    It appears that either:
    1) Lenovo inadvertently listed the GOBI but are including the Ericcson card only (based on received units and the official spec sheet)
    2) Some people are getting the GOBI card and some are only getting the Ericcson (both are listed currently in the build/config section) due to manufacturing mistakes, different system configs depending on when you ordered, errors made by rushing orders to ship/wrong configs going to wrong people, or random.
    3) Is it possible depending on which "discount" you used (none, B&N, stacked, etc) somehow Lenovo gave discountersonly the cheaper 3G card rather than the also the GOBI? (this would seem to require more skill than they are demonstrating currently).

If you have received your X1C, please report:
    1) Which mobile broadband card you have (one, both, none)
    2) What your build sheet/order sheet stated you should have
    3) What you expected

In my case, I received only the Ericcson card (no sim), build sheet stated Ericsson card (I didn't even check when I received the order confirmation), and I expected both the GOBI (built-in) and the open sim slot (presumably with the Ericsson). Oddly, I have the software installed to activate my integrated mobile broadband, but obviously it can't do anything because my X1C does not have an integrated card installed.

    Hmmmmm.

I don't understand? Isn't the Ericsson integrated? You say you do not have an integrated card. From the following help page, the ericsson should work fine with the lenovo mobile access, although maybe a SIM card is required which I hope Lenovo would provide.

Yes, I have the Ericsson. It requires a sim, I believe. However, many expected the GOBI LTE since that is what the config system shows. Integrated 4G (with embedded sim) v the integrated (but without sim) Ericsson 3G.

Just checking to determine what people got and what they expected (thought they ordered).

Ordered when it said Ericsson. Chatted with a rep after shipping, they said they looked at my config and it would have a GOBI 4000. Received w/ Ericsson.

I think that the GOBI 4000 on the site is a lie and that configuration / half height GOBI card doesn't actually exist... every rep seems to have a completely different answer, as well.

Indeed, I haven't seen anything to suggest a half height gobi exists.

Does anyone have a link to show what 3g bands the gobi supports? ie. are there european 3g bands that the ericsson supports that the gobi doesn't? Or is the 3g support the same?

The order configuration page no longer lists GOBI 4000 as the Mobile Broadband option, it lists the "Ericsson H5321gw". I guess that answers that.

OK, it appears the case is closed. I'm glad they fixed the online configuration page so that at least there isn't any confusion any longer. Bummer for those who thought they were paying for (and receiving the GOBI), but as other have shared, the Ericsson is quite fast itself.

I thought I was getting GOBI, the no-contract 3G was a huge selling point for me. I got an Ericsson, and all of the Lenovo Mobile Access software which won't work. I called the Lenovo Mobile Access guys, and they are just as baffled as I am. They claim the no-contract Lenovo Mobile Access will ONLY work with a GOBI modem (GSM vs LTE issue). Mine did not come with a SIM, and I am starting to thing the "no contract 3G" was a lie, since it seems I have to go through AT&T.

I believe the Ericsson card comes with an open SIM slot, which is for no-contract 3.5G (better than 3G, up to 21 Mbps). You can buy a SIM card from any company and use it anywhere. That is one selling point to me too.

The problem is that AT&T pay as you go is 3xa more expensive than the Lenovo Mobile Access service they advertised.

... Get an AT&T or TMobile sim and state up service month to month as you need it.

    I'm having this issue too.
You cant even register lenovo mobile access without a sim card. My X1C didnt even come with a sim card.

No idea what to do to get this thing running on a sim / data plan. I dont want to go through AT&T or Tmobile either - I want to try out Lenovo's data plan.

Did Lenovo cancel this program? I was certainly interested in getting a day pass for data from time to time.

I have been trying to get in touch with them about this and get some answers. Submitted an information request through the IBM support website, and an empty Lenovo repair box showed up at my office with absolutely no explanation.

I actually submitted a repair request through the website, and they sent me a box too. I promptly called to let them know that a tech would need to come out as I bought an onsite warranty to avoid such situations. I know it's off topic... /vent

All their advertisements, and even the tech specs up until a couple days ago, at the time I ordered stated no-contract, pay-as-you-go Lenovo Mobile Access through the GOBI card. That's one of the reasons I bought the X1. They sold something they didn't have and I am upset. Lenovo could have legal trouble over this. At the very least, I may return it and they better not charge me a restocking fee. At worst, class action lawsuit?

Would you mind posting that comment on the thread I started on the Lenovo Support page?

X1 Carbon Lenovo Mobile Access - Lenovo Community

They seem to be responding to many of the issues there if they get more than 10 posts. I've had very little luck getting through to humans on any of the support lines or online service requests.

I will once my laptop shows up in the mail. I ordered on the 16th and still don't have anything. I do, however, have a datasheet pdf from Lenovo that states the options and the GOBI is included as one. I can understand a mistake, maybe it was an option during development, but had to remove it for launch, but all the hoopla about pay-as-you-go should have been corrected. Google X1 GOBI and there is a huge amount of promotional material out there, distributed by Lenovo, that states this.

I will post there. Though I like the laptop (despite it being sent in for service for the loose trackpad and a broken key), I'm angered by the misrepresentation of pay as you go mobile broadband using Lenovo Mobile Access.

My hypothesis is that the delay many people experienced could have been a result of multiple parts issues: certainly the Ethernet dongle which is well publicized but also perhaps an expectation by Lenovo that he half height GOBI 4000 would be ready to go. When it wasn't, they replaced it with the Ericsson device.

Laptop was configured with GOBI, documentation said it'd be GOBI, arrived w/ an Ericsson. Was looking forward to this feature, I guess I'll have to purchase a SIM card.

What are people doing - just going to ATT and buying a prepaid card?

Don't bother with a Sim card. You can download PDANet2 & tether an Android phone to your laptop. You keep your phone fully charged while getting 4G service (from verizon or ATT) for free!

I don't understand this. On the wireless device page:

    Wireless Devices - Reference Guide

    It says:
Ericsson H5321gw = Worldwide except U.S. and Brazil

Except for US? Why would that be a standard option then on the Lenovo US site?
