my gf has the 14 inch T61 and her arrow buttons on the bottom right of the keypad are very stiff and sturdy feeling... but mine are kinda loose feeling and makes a hollow sound , maybe because the hardware for the fingerprint reader isnt there and theres an empty space maybe

I would try tightening the screws first just in case. Then you could try removing the keyboard and see what is going on. If everything looks okay I don't know what to tell you, mine are rock solid but then again I have the fingerprint reader. If all else fails and it really bothers you you could call tech support and see if they have any advice.

    Hope I helped :)

I guess you could say mine feel a little lose/flimsy, but I don't really notice it too much. I think it is because of the finger print reader.

does the chassis around your arrow buttons or backspace button make a sound when you press on the button with anything harder than a slight push

if that helps: mine are not flimsy at all (I have the fingerprint reader). They move a bit when you 'caress' them, but just as much as any other key. HTH

I get the same feel under my arrow keys. Every other key on the keyboard has a very solid feel to it but the arrow keys feel like they aren't anchored down as securely or something. The feel more like other cheaper laptops. I've never worried about it but I'll pay attention to this thread to see if you come up with a fix.

I was wondering the same thing. My arrow keys are flimsy as well. I just figured it was meant to be that way, and left it alone. The rest of my keys are very strong and sturdy. I have to check to see if there is any screws that have to be tightened on the back though.

I have the same thing too. Mine doesn't have a fingerprint reader either.

I know the reason for it is because my right side of the palmrest does not push the keyboard down so that it is touching the base underneath. If I press down on the right palmrest the keyboard is not as flimsy.

I tried re-setting the palmrest and whithout the screws in I can set the plamrest perfectly so that everything fits together nicely, but once I put in the screws the right side of palmrest doesn't want to fit in nicely.

I figure the fix would be to put something under the right side of the keyboard so that it's not loose.

It's not really a big deal, but feels kind of weird sometimes. I use the arrow keys a lot when programming and playing games... which is pretty much all the time.

Webdtc is correct. Pushing on the case parts around the arrow keys does firm it up. Might be able to squeeze some kind of shim in there that would solve the problem.
