I need a laptop I can put on my lap and stays cool. I use my laptop to read and use the web. My current laptop gets so hot that I feel like its gonna cause problems with my balls. So I was wondering if it gets hot? I like the idea of aluminum body like the Mac's which i think stay cool? what do you think?

Yep, it does. I can feel the heat in my balls too.

Not sure the MBPs stay cool either though.

Sorry, but I am not kidding.

Browsing, running updates, doing downloads - my X220 gets uncomfortably hot. Fan is running on, quite noisy.

On the other hand, I don't get the 6h of battery time either (only about 4) so maybe I am doing something wrong.

The bottom of my x220 stays very cool with normal office work/browsing. Read the review on NBR for details.

Well even when it hit almost 80 degrees (4K Stream + 1080p Stream) it felt slightly warm to the touch on the left bottom side. Nothing at all uncomfortable though

Mine gets very warm at high loads, but for normal use, it's barely warm. A huge improvement over the W500.

I'm at about three and a half hours on the battery, and my temps (internal) are about 58 C. On my lap it's warm, but not uncomfortably so.

Mine gets warm enough to notice while browsing the web. 9-cell battery. Getting about 10 hours.

I'd say mine gets a bit warm, but never gets hot.

Mine sure does get warm. Even my eeepc netbook gets warm after prolonged use. Your lap isn't exactly ideal for heat dissipation. There's a reason manufacturers call their products "notebook" rather than "laptop".

w.r.t. aluminium body, it's designed to keep cpu cool, not the exterior. basically it's just a gigantic heatsink. My 3-4+ y.o. MacBook Pro and PowerBook sure do get hot after using it for a while. (Newer Macs maybe cooler, I dunno)

I'll either have some kind of lap desk between my lap and my notebook or I'll just put it on some other surface.

For light reading / web browsing / youtube / etc, I find that tablets are most comfortable. :)
