Does Thinkvantage software make your explorer.exe ever hang on boot up? Or any other system issues for that matter?

Compared to my wife's T42 which has no client security solutions installed and embedded security chip disabled I find my T60 which has all of that hangs on boot up every now and then, and when I go to task manager and do a manual shut down it says that EXPLORER.EXE is not responding and I have to end the task abruptly. This would only happen once in awhile but just now it took two tries, and nearly 7 minutes of my time just to get into my computer. I keep a clean registry with CClean too so I am just trying to figure is it the thinkvantage client security solutions program?

Have any of you ever had such problems with client security solutions or other thinkvantage software hanging or freezing your system?

    The short answer is "No".

A fuller answer: as soon as I received my Lenovo, I downloaded Base Software Administrator and used it to perform a clean install. So my ThinkVantage Start Menu slot is... empty! :D

I do have some Lenovo stuff installed, but they are only three (under the "Lenovo Care" Start Menu slot):

    1. Create Recovery Media
    2. Rescue and Recovery
    3. System Update

I've noticed that windows explorer does hang every once in awhile, twice so far that I've been using my computer. I thought it was just Vista acting up on me but maybe it is the Thinkvantage stuff.

I have the Productivity Center, Active Protection System, Power Manager, and System Update installed on my system. If they are making my system act up like that then I would hate having to uninstall them since they are pretty useful.

Thanks for the reply, I guess the less bloatware the better. I need the client security solutions though for the private disk function to encrypt certain disk folders in case the laptop ever gets lifted, and I know for sure that specific program has some conflicts, so wasn't sure about other issues it might be causing. I don't get the explorer.exe hang often, just once in awhile but it can be a nuisance.

I agree, they can be handy. I'm sorry to hear you have the same problem but at least I'm not alone with this. Like I said, its once in awhile, but I had it happen again back to back the other day and it took 7 - 8 minutes before I could get into the system, not good if you're in a hurry.

    Hi all,

I also have this problem. I think it is related to the ThinkVantage HotKey utility. It seems that explorer.exe hangs when the hotkey utility tries to show the volume level with the OSD. This issue only came up when I upgraded the Thinkvantage software on our latest images.

Could you let me know what version of the HotKey utility you have?

The only way to tell is by looking at the dates of the files (it is not listed in add/remove).

My TPONSCR.dll has a modify date of: 29-Sep-06 and it is found in: C:\Program Files\Lenovo\HOTKEY

    Thanks.
