    I am about to order a T61 and I wanted to save by ordering Vista home and than reinstall it with Vista Business 64bit that I can get from work.

    I looked at Lenovo's driver download site and I was overwhelm by how many different driver there are!! So the question is, will my newly order T61 come with a all-in-one driver disc? So once I get vista bus 64 installed, I dont have worry about downloading the right driver...

    As well, please comment on the configuration of this T61, anything I should or shouldn't change. Thanks!
    **Note: I plan to add 1 x 2GB ram once I receive this laptop

    The setup looks great; a DVD burner and a 7-cell would've been a plus but if you're under a budget, you made a good value purchase and decision.

    About the Vista drivers. First off, there are drivers for 32-bit and there are drivers for 64-bit, so even if they did send you an all in one driver disc, it would most likely consist of 32-bit drivers since you ordered with Vista Basic.

    They put the drivers on their website which has a couple advantages;

    1. Gauranteed up to date links.
    2. You can always download the drivers if you lose a disc that they would give you.

    Lastly, I don't think I've ever seen a Driver Disc for a ThinkPad to begin with. Unfortunately, you will have to download the necessary ones for your system and use Stallen's guide as a basis.

    Hi to all, My first post :eek:

    Lenovo doesn´t give CD or DVD with the laptop. the OS is in a partition, you can access to taht partiotion in everymoment in order to reinstall your OS as the first day, or creat your own CD's or DVD's Recovery's Media.
    If you format your HDD you lost this "magic" partition.

    In otherwise, you ever can install the OS you want (MS, of course) and download the driver fron Lenovo web. If you go to Download and drivers section you can install a app. called "System Update". This app read your Bios Info and download all the drivers and Firmwares you need automatically.

    Its not necessary that you download all the drivers searching by web.
    :)

    These are very useful info, thanks!!

    I got another question about Intel Turbo Memory... As I understand, it will help speed up vista during system start up and I also read somewhere that this turbo memory works the same as putting a USB memory key with readyboot via vista, is that true?? If so, will this work with a SD card? So that I can just stick a SD card in my memory card ready and have it running all the time? A USB memory key is a little inconvenient as compare to a tiny SD card. thx!

    turbo memory is useless, waste of money. Just spend a few extra bucks on maximizing your ram.

    An SD card and a flash drive would achieve the same thing...but not all are compatible. Just upgrade to extra after market would be better because it is a huge boost over turbo memory and an extra 2gb or 1gb stick of ram is starting to get pretty cheap.
