Does Rescue and Recovery ever hang permanently on your thinkpad and then doesn't work anymore to make back ups?

Since upgrading to the recent versions of rescue and recovery on my thinkpad (I think the update was half a year ago, can't remember what version it is just yet but its current is my point)

I can get away with making maybe one or two backups (on an external usb drive) but then it will just stay at 0% on the next one and I'll have to use task manager to quit it. Then if I reboot the computer again and again it will never load R & R again even if I try, I have to uninstall it, reinstall R & R again just to make a backup. This is only happening since that update (I should have stuck with the original and not done the update).

I have a T60 with SP3 (its not Service pack 3 fault, this was happening even on my SP2). I hate not having a backup anymore.

If anyone has an ideas or a better alternative to R & R that I should go out and buy I would love to know.

    Thanks,

    S

Try Norton Ghost 2003/Symantec Ghost (I personally favour using Symantec Ghost 8.2 ( an older ver,) via DOS prompt, or Acronis TrueImage.

Have used the former past 3-4 yrs off a boot CD without much problem. Have also heard good things about Acronis TI.

Another quick tip: you can also try the freeware ERunt (current ver is 1.1j, do Google search). It backs up the registry every time Windows boots and has helped me out more than once in c/o BSOD's, etc.

Less time-consuming to restore from, than Window's System Restore (have turned turned this off) and any of the imaging programs.

StagoreK.. it's funny that you made this post because i have the same problem post installation of the RnR patch.

Should I kill the service and reinstall RnR? How did you uninstall the patch (assuming) if you will get the same issue after you install RnR?

Did you find a good solution?

The TP R&R program is v. slow, guess that's because it works from within Windows.

Happened to stumble upon this yesterday-
It seems Seagate now offers Acronis TrueImage + it's partitioning program (DiscWizard), integrated into the new DiscWizard (current ver 10.0.5077). The Manual gives useful info.

As far as can be made out, it's *free-to-use* (no licensing fees or online registration required); however with the requirement at least one of your hard disks should be a Seagate. Just installed it on my desktop (1 Seagate IDE & 1 WD SATA) and seems to work fine. Bootable media can also be created from within the program.
