I've been watching all those threads about product improvement in several forums for quite some time now and I've just arrived at the point at which I'm asking myself if any of those suggestions really make it into R&D.

Are there some engineers snooping around and collecting the best input? Because if I were head of development I would surely look into this vast source of feedback.

Maybe we could establish a collection of the best thoughts in here.

    My thoughts about the X-Series:

    • LED-backlit screens are a must-have
    • Slot-in drives are small and cool (look at the Dell XPS M1330)
    • SSD drives improve speed and battery-life (bring those prices down please!)
    • Add a digital video/(audio)-output (HDMI or Display Port)

With those additions and improvement I would buy one asap.

Aside from the SSD, the rest I think are not very suitable for most of the thinkpad machines as they are specced towards business users.

The optical drive is not needed as there is a specialized dock for it. It may add to the weight, but it improves functionality.

The LED backlit is pretty new, and it may be implemented in the next version of x-series, but does it really offer that much improvement for the cost?

Lastly, I know many business users rather have 120gb or hd than say... pay $500 more for a much smaller flash based HD. Most of the business-oriented softwares are light on hardware anyway.

We do have to remember that the x61s is the thinnest and lightest notebook available, and its not easy to make that possible, you have to make sacrifices, although i would love an LED backlit screen and SSDs, but right now this technology is relatively new to the market..
