    Just a quicky...

Well the subject pretty much asks the question, if I buy a Thinkpad, add RAM and later decide to add a 7200RPM drive, would that void my warranty? Even if it doesn't void the warranty, have any of you guys had problems with IBM/Lenovo blaming your modifications on problems.

No. The Magnuson-Moss warranty act states that they cannot void your entire warranty, only the warranty on that system.

Basically if you install your own RAM, the Lenovo warranty on RAM no longer covers you.

(the act was originally passed for people who modified their cars)

hah yeah a policy passed for the states probably wont protect you in africa.

still, most manufacturer policies are in line with that anyway. i would expect lenovo to uphold that concept regardless of law. its good business practice.

(especially on changeable parts like ram and hdd --> trying to replace the lcd screen or graphics card might make them frown)

Yeah, I'm not terribly concerned about it, I just hope to not have to get into long arguments about how my third party ram damaged Lenovo's RAM and stuff like that. :)

    Thanks for the tips :)

if you pull out the hot-swappable optical drive, you can put in a 2nd hard drive via he ultrabay port.

Your saying you pull out the optical drive just to install the hard drive right, and then you put it back in?

You have to use the ultrabay adapter to hold the hard drive. video in my sig

EDIT: That video only shows the ultrabay optical drive removal and insertion. Basicaly you remove the optical drive as shown in the video, then you insert the ultrabay adapter which holds any 2.5" SATA HDD.
