I am trying to figure out if I need any one of them. I am in the process of configuring a T60 before I buy one.

Which one should I get if you think I need a dock or port replicator?

You have probably already clicked on 'Help Me Decide' in the T60 configurator. This will tell you what ports and feature are available with each.

You may also want to check out these User Guides. Not very descriptive, but they have a good illustration of the back side of the docks and the available connections:

ThinkPad Essential Port Replicator and Advanced Mini Dock User Guide
The Port Replicator is not supplied with an AC adapter. ($161)
The Mini Dock comes with an external AC adapter.($219, special offer $197)

    ThinkPad Advanced Dock User Guide
The Advanced Dock has an integral AC Power supply (the AC cord plugs directly into the dock), a fan, and an ultrabay ($341)

I do not really need the extra ultrabay of the Advanced Dock, but I do like the extra features of the Advanced Mini Dock over the Port Replicator. With the current pricing, I think it is a good deal. For $36 more than the Port Replicator you get an extra AC adapter, plus DVI-D, audio, serial, and parallel ports. The Port Replicator also does not have fancy LEDs :)
