    Hi all,

I had a couple of questions about docks.

1)Does my old T40 dock station, work on my new T400? Does it fit?

    2) Does it worth to buy one? What are the pros and cons of a dock?

    3) The name Is> Dock Station, Mini Dock, DosckAdvanced or what? (if they are diferents, please, illustrate me)

    thanks all

Why don't you just research it yourself? That's a lot of info to ask someone else to look up for you.

    1. Only the T6x/R6x generation docks will be compatible with the new Tx00 series, which means the T4x series won't fit.

    2. Basically turns your notebook into a desktop.

    3. Click for more details,

ThinkPad Advanced Mini Dock: The ThinkPad Advanced Mini Dock offers enhanced cable management and connectivity in a surprisingly small form factor. Ideal for notebook users who need quick and easy access to peripherals but do not require full desktop expansion capability.
ThinkPad Essential Port Replicator: The ThinkPad Essential Port Replicator offers one-step, passthrough connection to the devices you use every day. Ideal for notebook users who need access to a network, monitor, and multiple USB-attach peripherals.
ThinkPad Advanced Dock: The ThinkPad Advanced Dock offers full connectivity and desktop expansion for users of next generation ThinkPad systems. Ideal for notebook users who use multiple monitors, work with digital media, or require a second optical or hard drive.

thanks arkit3kt. I looked in lenovo.com and didn't found it. It seems, that i'm not a good searcher.

Also djh01, i did search it in google, I just wanted to know the experience from the users. neither google or wikipedia can tell about this.

I still don't know the difference between the Advanced Mini Dock and the Port Replicator. But I do have a mini dock, and it's quite a convenience. If you find yourself on the go with your laptop a lot, and find it really annoying to have to plug in all your USB peripherals, ethernet cable, speakers into your laptop, then the dock simplifies it quite well. It also makes it easier to work with an external monitor, but I don't have one.

Reading more (thanks Arkit3kt), the difference is that the Advance moni Dock has the security key. The port replicator doen't. (I think)

Advanced MiniDock also has DVI, S/PDIF (digital audio), audio-out, mic-in, serial, and parallel ports.

The Advanced Mini Dock also includes a 90W AC adapter, the Port Replicator relies on the one you got with your system. It's much nicer to use a dock with a 2nd AC adapter rather than packing up and unpacking the single one that came with the latop.

Bunch more than just a key. :)
