I don't like McAfee and wondering whether I should go ahead and install it or not. Do you guys know of any other option? I'm looking for virus scanning program that won't slow down my X200.

I have been using avg for over a year. I used to use Mcafee... but it has gotten really heavy on resources lattely so I dropped it.

AVG is good for anti-virus. Spybot is pretty good for anti-apyware.

    Would not recommend McAfee.

Free: AVG, Avira. Avast, spybot search & destroy (not an anti-virus)
    Paid: Nod32, Kaspersky.

    for anti-spyware, I'd use Ad-Aware 2007

Adaware isn't that great anymore, IMO. I do, however, often see it pre-installed on laptops I work on.

I used to like Mcafee a few years ago but it got too bloated for my tastes. Hard to find options and too many options in general for a basic home user. Then I went to Norton, boy was that a big mistake. It didn't even work reliably on 3 different machines that I tried it on. It would keep breaking and I had to keep trying to fix it. So now I use the free Avria. I love it and it seems to work fine and stay out of your way. So in short no, I don't use Mcafee on my Thinkpad :p

Spybot has always been more thorough, in my opinion.

I used Norton for quite awhile, until it kept getting too bloated and in my way and impossible to remove.

Now I use Comodo for the firewall and some spyware checking, and Avast! (paid version) for virus checking. I also use SpyBot, AdAware, and Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware for occasional scans.

I hear that Kaspersky is one of the best, but has caused some issues with some people's computers.

Adaware has become a bit bloated and can cause some issues with certain programs executing properly (hard to get the settings correct to not have it interfere...and I wouldn't have it running actively anyways.)

Anyways remember everyone that the best antivirus is yourself...browse smart.
