I am quite tempted to get a X200 with the deals that are going on right now, but kind of wish lenovo offers the flexview screen on the regular model that they offer for the tablets. Do you think lenovo will have it as an upgrade option after they refresh the X series (it's probably gonna be quite expensive an upgrade though).

thinkpad knows best Notebook Deity
Unfortunately they probably will continue to use the same old TN panels. They took it out of mainstream ThinkPads around 2006, they won't randomly bring it back now, well they might but demand is not high enough to justify it, also i heard it was because the price of FlexView's was steeply climbing because of shortages. Also, when i got my T61p i wasn't exactly happy with the viewing angles, i found brightness was fine, if you had it at the one angle it looked decent in, so i was wanting to know if a UWUXGA panel exists, as in a 15.4" FlexView at 1920x1200.

That's unfortunate indeed. So it seems like these screens will only be targeted toward specific markets. Although, to me, it is a win-win situation if lenovo offer the upgrade in as many places as possible. It might end up boosting the demand for these screens, after all.

Lenovo has always said they have trouble securing a regular supply of the screens, which is why they got rid of them after the T60. I don't know if there's any truth to it. I have no reason to doubt it. They do offer them on the tablets, but that's a much smaller market than the T or X series. If you really want an ultraportable with a good screen your best option would be to buy a X200 or X200s with a CFFL screen and swap it with the AFFS screen available on eBay. That will likely come at the cost of your warranty, though it is not difficult to do.

I'd like to see a pic of the CCFL AFFS screen with the LED tablet screen. Is 285 nit vs 200 nits even noticeably different? I am thinking: a bit of grain on the tablet's screen but brighter, vs. no grain but a bit dimmer for the AFFS screen. I also think that the LED will keep its brightness over time and not fade.

That's why I would gladly transplant a LED AFFS screen to the X200 if it is at all possible.
Now, Lenovo is offering a LED WXGA screen for the X200, so if the LCD cable is at the right position, installing the LED AFFS screen would be a breeze. Unfortunately, I don't have the funds to go experimenting with this.
Do you think lenovo will upgrade regular X200 with flexview screen in the near future?
