Do you get a constant pop-up box with your finger reader?

When I boot my T400 and it's sitting at the logon screen, I get a finger reader pop up box every 1.5 seconds saying 'Too Short!' 'Too Short!' 'Too Short!' over and over and over again but I haven't tried to scan my finger yet.

It's like it's panicing and doesn't know what to do. It usually scans my finger fine when I scan it. I didn't know if this was normal behavior for this.

I looked at the sensor to see if it's dirty and it was picking up a trace smudge or something but it's not. I tried reinstalling the software and drivers too but it hasn't helped.

    Nope, not normal.

Try removing the palmrest and reseating the connector for the trackpad & fingerprint reader. Four screws from the bottom.

If that doesn't work, you may have received a bad unit; call warranty support.

Well gave that a shot. Thought it worked cause when I booted back into windows it stopped! But now I rebooted and it's doing it again. I just don't know if it's a software/driver issue or a hardware issue.

Well called them up again, said I really can't afford to send the whole laptop in, so they're supposed to be sending me a replacement palmrest/reader. We'll see if that one works better (hopefully).

Better call and ask for a replacement. Hopefully mine comes in early next week. I'll let everyone know if it helps or not.

Mine is random too. Must be software issue.

I didn't do much to 'fix' it: just wipe the lens with my shirt. I don't think it solved the actual issue.

Well my replacement is supposed to come in today, however, another guy received his and he's saying the laptop won't recognize the new one because of the security chip.

So I'm not too optimistic at this point.

Well I installed my replacement and so far... so good!

Have not gotten one pop-up box.

I uninstalled the finger reader software first, before I disconnect my original one, and deleted all of the fingerprint data when uninstalling.

I then connected the new one and installed the software/drivers again and so far it's running smooth. Let's see if it stays that way.

Most of the time the easiest solution to this is to CLEAN the reader..

Same problem here. Very annoying. Definitely a software issue. Not just on Windows logon, but anytime you used the fingerprint scanner (like opening the utility).

I turn the sensitivity down one notch in the utility (it's in the middle between Convenient and More Secure. I did one notch down toward Convenient.

That seems to do the trick. Reboot and not popping up over and over.

I think there's a bug in the software.

Yeah could be, but I turned it down for me as well and still had an issue.

The new one Lenovo sent me has been almost perfect. It did freak out once, but hasn't since then.
