Are the memory chips the same for these two models?

it dosnt really matter. you have it on hand just try it -- if it'll fit, it'll work
x220 uses SODIMM DDR3, x200 probably uses DDR2 in which case it wont work (and you wont be able to plug it in either

X200 uses DDR3 but runs at 1066 mhz. The X220 is capable of DDR3 with higher speed, if you put the X200 RAM module in the X220, then you would take a performance hit.

X200 dedicated GM45, GS45 controller.
Do x220 and x200s use the same RAM?
