I have just bought a T420s off eBay. There is Windows 7 Ultimate installed, listed as OEM and activated, but I cannot find the license under the machine. There should be one, right? No drivers are installed either.

The COA sticker should be underneath the battery bay, drivers can easily be retrieved from the Lenovo Support site or by using the Lenovo Thinkvantage Update application.
-
I cannot use Internet, because the drivers are not installed. Shouldn't new computers come with some sort of CD?
-
ThinkPads do not come with CD. Google "lenovo drivers" and you will find:
Lenovo Support - Download Drivers and Software (US)
I'm surprised the WLAN (WiFi) and LAN (Gigabit Ethernet) drivers are not installed. Did you buy a "used" T420s? -
The person whom sold you the machine may have used a Lenovo recovery discs to install the OS.
If the laptop doesn't have the Win 7 ultimate license stickers, then the OS is not factory shipped and is installed aftermarket. -
You will need to make your own recovery disks. If you want to make a recovery usb key, you will need at least 16gb (tried it with 8gb... not enough space) -
Ultimate would have been installed by the user.
But most machines will have a COA, and it's under the battery.Attached Files:

Some ThinkPads are sold with DOS and will not have a COA. You can find the key and do a clean install of Windows if that's what you wish.

That's why I said most. There are very few machines sold without a Windows license. Since the most recent generation of Thinkpad's there have been a number of users like Amn that didn't know it was relocated to under the battery and weren't able to find it.

I was not directing my reply to you, but the OP's original question.

If all else fails, I would give KeyFinder | Magical Jelly Bean a shot.
Do all T420s have the Windows license sticker on the underside?
