Seems like within the last two weeks, the screen on my T60 (at max brightness) has gotten a lot dimmer.

Is it normal that screens lose some of their brightness over time? It's about 6 months old. I have it plugged in, and brightness set to the max. It doesn't really seem like it was a gradual thing, like normal aging, because I've really just started to notice it within the last two weeks.

It's an LG screen, which had been one of my favorite things about this laptop, until now.

Yeah call tech support and if it's still under warranty they'll definitely send you a box. Just keep calling them every 2-3 days to check up on the status and tell them specifics so that they can leave a note for the tech depot guys.

LCDs, or rather the small lamp tubes that run along the sides, can get dimmer over time, but that time period is measured in YEARS, not months. I have a Compaq Armada from 2000 that is much dimmer than it used to be, and it now has a yellow tint to it.

Once you've ensured the Brightness and Color Adjustment controls are working properly, call Lenovo tech support.

With the exception of a very few number of ultra high-end laptops, like some of Toshiba's Qosmio desktop behemoths, laptops with CCFL backlighting have only one CCFL tube that typically runs along the bottom of the LCD.

And, yes, the CCFL will dim with age and as it nears the end of its service life the CCFL's light will tend to turn pink or red.

Very old laptop LCDs can tend to look yellowish due to the aging of LCD's polarizing filters as well as and oxidation on the CCFL's reflector.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. Mysteriously, it's back to normal now. Well, it's not really that mysterious, but I'll call it that so not to sound so stupid. After I rebooted, it came back to normal. With Vista I sometimes go for weeks without rebooting, and just go into hibernate each time. I "think" this problem persisted through at least one reboot, but I can't swear to it. In summary, I should have tried a little harder before posting. But I learned a lot anyway from the responses.
