Just wondering. I ordered one with 15.4" WSXGA+, Quadro 570M 256 meg graphics, and I am putting in 4 gigs of RAM and the Samsung200 gig drive that is 7200 RPM with 16 meg cache.
Just wondering if you guys think it would run hot enough to need a laptop cooler.
I know my friend who has a gaming laptop has to use a laptop cooler stand when he is gaming at LAN parties otherwise his laptop overheats and locks up. He has an HP, I forget what model but it cost him $3500 a couple years ago when he bought it so he tries to protect his investment...

nope...mine has never gotten beyond warm...no need for a laptop cooler unless you want to use it on mushy surfaces such as a bed where the fan can get clogged up

It would be hard to get a effective cooler for a T61, most of the air comes in and out from the corner. Except for the tinny slots all around the bottom but I doubt those would really do much if it had a fan under them.

Ah, well it's good to know that the Thinkpad T61 doesn't have major heat problems!
It's funny my friend's HP laptop he uses for gaming cost him $3500 when he bought it and that POS has a Pentium 4 in it... In fact I think it has the regular P4 desktop CPU !!! It also has an Nvidia Geforce FX I think 5200 in there... HOLY COW that thing gets incredibly hot, and it's a 17" model!
It's so pathetic, I remember when he first bought it new and showed it off at our LAN party, we were all laughing at how poor the performance was in games, and how loud and hot it ran, and how huge and heavy it was and how impractical to carry around for school it was, and how he paid way too much for it... lol..
Anyways HE always uses a laptop cooler because if he doesn't, and he plays games, his laptop gets EXTREMELY hot!
I can't wait to show him how much faster, smaller, lighter, quieter, and cooler my Thinkpad will be... He deserves it, you should have seen how ****y he was acting when he bought his laptop back in the day, and how he was lording it over us and laughing because we couldn't afford somethin like that... Well it's almost payback time MUAHAHA! -
a thinkpad definitely looks sexy IMO....There have been many times in the library where people would stop by and ask me what kind of comp I had...and this was years ago when i had the t40..
Do I need a laptop cooler for a T61?
